How to Choose a PPC Agency (Without Burning Your Budget)

Published 2026-01-25 · Updated 2026-02-22 · 7 min read

Paid media is the fastest way to lose money online and the fastest way to print it. The difference is almost never the platform — it is who is steering. Here is how to choose a PPC agency that protects your return instead of padding billable hours.

Own the account, always

Non-negotiable: the ad accounts are in your name and you have admin access. Agencies that "host" your account create lock-in and make switching painful. You should be able to revoke access in one click.

The 6-point selection checklist

  • Platform certification — Google Partner / Meta Blueprint at minimum.
  • Transparent fee model — flat, percentage, or hybrid, stated up front.
  • Reported outcomes — ROAS/CPA tied to revenue, not vanity metrics.
  • Creative capability — they iterate hooks and angles, not just bids.
  • Account access — you own the logins.
  • Exit terms — no long lock-ins for an unproven partner.
Note —If an agency reports "impressions" and "clicks" as success, you are paying for activity, not results.

Where to find serious contenders

The paid media agency board shows agencies putting real budget behind their own visibility. An agency that cannot profitably acquire its own leads is a hard sell for managing yours — browse the board and shortlist the ones whose positioning matches your channel mix.
